WDFC-FM 101.7 is a low-power non-commercial educational radio station based in Greensboro, North Carolina. It holds the distinction of being the sole United Methodist Station in the Western Conference of the United Methodist Church. This station, owned by Christ United Methodist Church and operated by an all-volunteer staff, aims to entertain, inform, and educate listeners by showcasing a diverse range of music genres and programming.
Operating around the clock, Christ Church Radio boasts a distinctive format, with classical music featured on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, and Jazz/Smooth Jazz on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Saturdays showcase a variety of programs. The station also functions as an educational institution, providing hands-on training for students interested in pursuing careers in communication and broadcasting.
Notable programs include "Memories in Melodies" on Tuesdays at 8 pm and "Jazz with Gil" at 9 pm. Thursdays feature "Andee's Favorite Music," a variety show spotlighting Folk Music and other genres at 9 pm. Saturday afternoons from noon to 2:00 pm to 5:00 are dedicated to 50s, 60s, and 70s music with "Charting in the USA," while the evening features "On the Beach with Charlie Brown" from 5 pm to 8 pm and "Simply Timeless" at 8 pm, offering a mix of swing and jazz.
During mid-November until January 5th, the station transitions to playing Christmas music round-the-clock. Their Christmas programming stands out for its uniqueness, offering both sacred and secular songs that go beyond the usual holiday playlist found on other stations. The station also incorporates sacred music from renowned composers worldwide into its classical music programming.
Weekly special shows include a wide array of topics such as Animal Radio, Blind Talk Radio, The People's Pharmacy, With Heart & Voice, Cool Jazz Weekly, Music, and the Spoken Word among others. WDFC consciously aims to be distinct from other radio stations with its diverse formats and unique features that cater to a wide range of audiences.
